United Way of the Midlands (UWM, UnitedWayMidlands.org) is excited to announce that members of the Omaha-Council Bluffs community are invited to commemorate and celebrate the work and life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through a number of events and activities scheduled for Monday, January 15.
The day will kick off with the Sixth Annual MLK Day Breakfast at the Venue at the Highlander, 2120 N. 30th St. in Omaha, from 8 to 11 a.m. Admission for the event is a freewill donation or a non-perishable food item, and it is a collaboration between Metropolitan Community College, Partnership 4 Kids, No More Empty Pots, Together, Seventy-Five North, UNMC/Nebraska Medicine and UWM.
Following the breakfast, the Second Annual MLK Day Luncheon will also be held at the Highlander from noon to 1:30 p.m. Provided in collaboration with Big Mama’s Kitchen and Catering, Rib Shack Smokehouse, Lady T’s Gourmet Creations, Black Men United and UWM – the event will feature a special program and a free meal to the first 125 people to pre-register by visiting UnitedWayMidlands.org/MLKlunch.
The day will continue with a MLK Volunteer Event at the Highlander from 2 to 4 p.m. During the event, sponsored by UWM’s Good on the Go program, volunteers will assemble 2,000 snack pack kits for Together, Inc. – the largest number of kits ever assembled at one time.
And then the day will wrap up with a MLK Day Networking Happy Hour from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Highlander Dining Room, 2112 North 30th St., STE 201. The event – hosted by Big Mama’s Kitchen and Catering, Dena’s Place and UWM – will include a cash bar featuring a curated drink and food menu, along with a DJ providing music.
