Rejuvenating Women’s 6th Beautifully Broken Gala to Feature Cyntoia Brown-Long

Rejuvenating Women’s 6th Annual Beautifully Broken Gala is on tap as a live event on Thursday, September 10 at Embassy Suites LaVista. The keynote speaker will be Cyntoia Brown-Long, a human-trafficking survivor, author, speaker, and advocate for criminal-justice reform. The Gala also includes a dinner and a silent auction, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Corporate sponsorships, table purchases, and single tickets are on sale at rejuvenatingwomen.com/restored-wings.

Cyntoia’s story is one of heroic survival and redemption. Born to an alcoholic teenage mother who was also a victim of sex trafficking, she experienced a sense of isolation, low self-esteem, and alienation that drove her straight into the hands of a predator. At age 16, she was arrested for killing a man who had solicited her for sex, was tried as an adult, and sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole for 51 years. In prison, Cyntoia’s life took a dramatic turn when the prison education principal took her under her wing and introduced her to a spiritual path. She encouraged Cyntoia to build a positive life in prison and to resist negative influences. Her journey was a rollercoaster ride that included a documentary about her life, a profound encounter with God, an unlikely romance, and eventually, a commuted sentence by Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam.
