A city mayor, a retired high school principal, and the outreach coordinator for an organization promoting active living are 2012 public servants of the year.

The American Society for Public Administration, Nebraska Chapter will honor these outstanding people April 26 at a recognition luncheon in Omaha that’s open to the public. Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler is ASPA Nebraska’s Outstanding Elected Official. Retired Lincoln North Star High School Principal Dr. Nancy Becker is Outstanding Public Administrator. Julie Harris, outreach coordinator for Activate Omaha, is Outstanding Nonprofit Administrator.

ASPA Nebraska’s Chapter Council selects public servants to recognize each year from among nominations submitted by the public. Its Annual Public Service Recognition Luncheon and Awards Ceremony, which took place April 26, is also the organization’s largest annual fundraiser.

This year ASPA Nebraska also is honoring Dr. Mary Hamilton, senior executive in residence at the University of Nebraska at Omaha School of Public Administration, with its Lifetime Achievement Award. At the awards luncheon a partner organization, the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance, presented its Nonprofit of the Year award to Lauritzen Gardens.
