Outlook Nebraska to Host Resource Fair for Individuals Dealing With Vision Loss

People who are blind or dealing with impaired vision are encouraged to attend a resource fair designed specifically for the visually impaired. The Visually Impaired Community Resource Fair, hosted by Outlook Nebraska (www.outlooknebraska.org), is Saturday, April 30 at Westroads Mall in the Von Maur Court area next to Panera Bread from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Dozens of area organizations including the Nebraska Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Boys Town National Research Hospital, and Radio Talking Book Service will be available to explain the services offered to those dealing with visual impairment or blindness.

“For almost everyone experiencing vision loss themselves or accompanying a family member through it, there is a huge learning curve to understand how to function daily with limited or no sight,” said Lisa Kelly, ONI’s Director of Enrichment Programs.

“Having all the agencies and resources that support those with visual impairment from our local area together in one place can make that learning curve much easier. People also feel empowered when they realize they are not alone in going through vision loss and when they see others who have successfully navigated through the vision loss challenge to live full, productive lives. We expect this fair will not only give them hope, but concrete means to continue thriving,” Kelly said.
