Outlook Nebraska Celebrates Five Years of Putting Safety First
Outlook Nebraska (outlookne.org) is proud to announce it has reached a safety milestone of five years without a lost-time incident. Outlook, the largest employer of the blind in the state, maintains a workforce in which more than 60% of its associates are blind or visually impaired.
“The safety of every Outlook Nebraska associate is a priority for the team,” said Eric Stueckrath, chief executive officer of Outlook Nebraska. The non-profit has received two awards from the National Safety Council, Nebraska: Service to Community Safety Award in 2017 and Nebraska’s Safest Companies Award in April 2018.
“We work hard every day to ensure our associates go home safely to their families,” Stueckrath said. “Our full-time, on-site safety manager collaborates with all of us to integrate safe practices into our culture. These practices are second nature to every Outlook associate.”
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, manufacturers in 2016 experienced an average of 2.9 recordable and .9 lost-time incidents per every 100 workers. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), a “lost-time incident” usually refers to work-related injuries and illnesses that result in “Days Away and Restricted and Transferred Days” (DART).
Outlook Nebraska, which has the mission to positively impact everyone who is blind and visually impaired, collaborates with the City of Omaha and other partners to ensure the safety of people with vision loss throughout the community. Audible traffic signals are in place throughout Omaha that assist people affected by vision loss in crossing busy intersections.
