The Omaha Police Officers Association Foundation (OPOAF)(OPOAF.org), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, continues its mission to build positive relationships between the Omaha Police Department and the community through its recurring Shop with a Cop (SWAC) events. These events offer local youth meaningful one-on-one interactions with police officers through fun, supportive experiences.

On August 11, OPOAF hosted its annual Back to School SWAC event, this year supporting students from Benson West Elementary. Over 30 children were paired with officers to shop at Target, each receiving $200 to spend on clothing, shoes, school supplies and other essentials to prepare for the school year. Families and officers later gathered at the school for an afternoon of pizza, snow cones, and music, with a DJ helping create a festive atmosphere.

All SWAC events are free for participating children and their families, made possible entirely through community donations. OPOAF will host its next SWAC event in December, focused on bringing holiday cheer to Omaha families.
