Open Door Mission Seeks Supplies for New Art Therapy Studio for Adults and Children

Open Door Mission (https://www.opendoormission.org/) recently is building a new Art Therapy Studio for adults and children staying at the Mission and is seeking donations of supplies to stock it. The goal of art therapy is to help children, adolescents, and adults explore their emotions, improve their self-esteem, relieve stress, improve symptoms of anxiety and depression, and cope with physical illness or disability. Techniques used in art therapy can include drawing, painting, coloring, sculpting, and collage. As guests create, they may analyze what they have made and how it makes them feel. Through exploring their art, people can look for themes and conflicts that might be affecting their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

To stock the new studio, Open Door Mission is seeking donations of various items, including easels for the floor and tables; acrylic paint, watercolor paint, bristle paint brushes, canvases, oil pastels, silk paint brushes, embroidery hoops, markers, colored pencils, stencils, Play Doh and Play Doh toys, clay, adult and children aprons and scissors, and so much more. See the full list by scrolling to the bottom of the page at opendoormission.org/urgent-needs/art-therapy-studio/.
