Open Door Mission (opendoormission.org) invites the community to join Conversations on a Bench, a unique 24-hour event beginning Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 2 p.m.and concluding Friday, October 10, at 2 p.m. The event will be streamed live on Facebook and YouTube.
Open Door Mission is a Gospel Rescue Mission that meets the needs of individuals and families while inspiring HOPE for lasting change. Each day, the Mission provides 917 safe shelter beds to homeless men, women, and children, serves over 5,366 nutritious meals, and delivers preventative measures to more than 1,270 people living in poverty.
For 24 hours, Open Door Mission’s President and CEO, Candace Gregory, will sit on a bench, rain or shine, symbolizing the daily struggles many in our community face. Community members are encouraged to stop by Open Door Mission, ask Gregory a question, share a conversation, or bring a donation of food or funds. “This bench represents more than a seat it represents a place where real conversations begin,” said Gregory.
Throughout the event, Gregory will welcome special guests for candid discussions on homelessness, poverty, mental illness, community policies, and the challenges and opportunities Omaha faces. The goal is to foster awareness, empathy, and meaningful change.
