The annual American Heart Association’s Omaha-Council Bluffs Heart Walk made its debut at Stinson Park at Aksarben Village on May 21.

The event, led by Heart Walk Chair Gary Honts, CEO of Creighton University Medical Center, is the American Heart Association’s largest community event. Volunteers aimed to raise $600,000 through this year’s Heart Walk to support the association’s lifesaving research and educational programming.

The American Heart Association Heart Walk promotes heart-healthy living in a fun and family-friendly environment. Teams raise money for the fight against heart disease and stroke leading up to the event by sending e-mails out to family and friends. Some teams also do wrap-around events to raise funds. Top earners and teams were announced at the event.
