Thanks to a proclamation by Mayor John Ewing, April 15 was officially Avenue Scholars Day in Omaha.
This year, the Omaha-based nonprofit celebrated the occasion by highlighting the impact of its summer Boot Camp program.
The month-long Boot Camps are held in June and give Scholars meaningful opportunities to explore career paths in the automotive, skilled trades, or healthcare fields. These day camps allow Scholars to build confidence in their field of choice and envision a successful future through hands-on experiences and guidance from working professionals.
Scholars are paid for their participation, and many will graduate camp with professional certifications, including OSHA or CPR certificates.
Avenue Scholars provides career coaching and support services to young people, beginning in high school and extending through career entry. The goal of the program is to guide Scholars to full time positions in high-demand industries that pay a living wage and offer benefits.
