Omaha by Design and Metro Omaha Commission Local Artists to Transform ORBT
In a partnership with Metro Omaha, Omaha by Design (omahabydesign.org) has commissioned 10 Omaha artists to transform the Omaha Rapid Bus Transit’s (ORBT) utility boxes into unique works of art. The project, called Art + ORBT, is part of a larger Omaha by Design project called Art + Infrastructure and is dedicated to showcasing local art and beautifying the parts of Omaha no one notices. ORBT, which launched in September, is a new bus line that promises the union of smart technology and streamlined travel for faster and more frequent transportation. Art + ORBT will beautify the utility boxes along the transit to create a kind of mobile art gallery that will make a unique experience for anybody travelling the ORBT pipeline.
“We all came together and everyone’s got this unique design that reaches back into their artistic process that talks a lot about who they are, and also some of their experiences of living locally here,” said Art + ORBT artist Weston Thomson.
