This month, Avenue Scholars (avescholars.org) will welcome nearly 400 Omaha high school students to its innovative career development program. Every spring, the Omaha nonprofit hosts a New Scholar Celebration to admit its newest cohort of Scholars.

Currently high school sophomores, these students will officially begin the program in the fall of their junior year. As part of the program, these new Scholars will begin receiving training and education in the classroom from dedicated Career Coaches embedded at their high schools. These Coaches, who also provide support and resources outside the classroom, will work closely with Scholars for the remainder of their time in high school, helping them develop a clear and actionable long-term career plan.

After graduation, Scholars transition into Avenue Scholars’ Career Services program, which provides them with additional support as they pursue their chosen career pathway. The program ultimately aims to guide Scholars into sustainable, high-demand careers that provide a living wage and benefits.

The program currently serves Scholars in 13 high schools across seven Omaha-area school districts. For more information, please visit avescholars.org.
