The Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum (sacmuseum.org) has been honored with two significant accolades at the 2024 AIA (American Institute of Architects) Nebraska Excellence in Design competition, celebrating its lasting architectural and cultural impact. The museum was presented with the esteemed 25-Year Award, a recognition reserved for buildings that demonstrate enduring architectural excellence over decades. Additionally, it received the People’s Choice Award.
The facility features two expansive, column-free hangars, offering an unobstructed view of its impressive collection of 31 aircraft. This thoughtful design not only provides visitors with unique vantage points from both balcony and ground levels but also allows for flexibility in the display and rotation of aircraft, ensuring an ever-evolving experience.
Now, 25 years after its opening, the museum remains an iconic landmark in the greater Omaha area, continuing its mission to inspire curiosity about aviation and space exploration.
The Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum has grown over the years, emphasizing STEM education and space exploration while remaining true to its aviation heritage. The awards highlight the institution’s enduring relevance and commitment to creating innovative, interactive experiences for families and visitors of all ages.
