MLCDC Receives $60K Grant from United Way of the Midlands

Midlands Latino Community Development Corporation (MLCDC, www.midlandslatinocdc.org) is pleased to announce it was recently awarded a $60,000 grant from United Way of the Midlands. Thanks to the generosity of United Way donors, MLCDC will continue to serve disadvantaged and underrepresented communities through its Financial Stability Program for immigrants.

Located in the heart of South Omaha on 24th St., MLCDC’s programs aim to provide specialized financial trainings in a culturally competent approach enhancing individuals’ capacity to make informed decisions about household finances, and to reduce barriers for low-income individuals to achieve financial stability. With the help of this grant, MLCDC clients will receive financial education training in Spanish, English, Arabic, and Somali. During 2020, MLCDC supported more than 250 women through its Financial Education program in Spanish. This year, the program is expanding to refugee communities and will include men and young individuals. MLCDC’s financial coaches assist clients to set up goals, plan, and execute steps to achieve financial success.

Many people know the Midlands Latino Community Development Corporation as a place where individuals received training to open childcare businesses, but the mission at the heart of the organization is to provide training opportunities to low-income individuals to achieve financial stability and economic growth through entrepreneurship.
