July marks the one year anniversary of the Florence M. Lakin Child Development Center at MICAH House (www.themicahhouse.org). This 12,000-square-foot center serves children ages six weeks to six years, offering a Montessori-based curriculum that encourages hands-on learning and supports healthy emotional and cognitive development.

“We wanted to create a space where children would feel safe, supported, and just have fun,” said Childcare Center Director, Jess McGee. “And here we are one year later—we’ve done just that.”

The Florence M. Lakin Child Development Center is open to both shelter families, along with community families, offering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.

“It was so incredible working on the campaign to build the center, watching the construction process, the grand opening, and now—seeing it thrive one year later,” said Philanthropy Director, Maren Larsen. “It is amazing what the support of our community can accomplish.”

To mark the occasion, the children will enjoy a Water Field Day celebration, filled with fun, laughter, and plenty of splash-filled memories. For more information about the Florence M. Lakin Child Development Center or to support MICAH House, please contact Maren Larsen at mlarsen@themicahhouse.org.
