MENTOR Nebraska Celebrates National Mentoring Month
MENTOR Nebraska (www.MENTORNebraska.org), formerly Midlands Mentoring Partnership, is celebrating National Mentoring Month in January by kicking off its 6th annual city-wide mentor recruitment campaign. As part of the recruitment campaign, MENTOR Nebraska is including a Corporate Mentoring Challenge in partnership with the Greater Omaha Chamber and Mayor. The goal is to challenge Omaha businesses to create or expand an existing mentoring culture within their companies and to encourage employee participation in mentoring programs for youth in the community. More than 40 local businesses are participating in the challenge.
Mayor Stothert will further support the initiative through her continued participation in Mayors for Mentoring, a national network of mayors across the country partnering with mentoring organizations to mobilize their communities around youth mentoring. The City of Omaha Mayor’s Office has also awarded MENTOR Nebraska a $10,000 grant to be used for mentor recruitment events.
As part of the recruitment campaign, MENTOR Nebraska is teaming up with Starbucks in Omaha to help recruit mentors during Martin Luther King week. Twenty-three Starbucks locations will distribute handouts detailing how customers can get involved in mentoring. Starbucks is also providing space at every Omaha location for MENTOR Nebraska’s mentoring organizations to recruit mentors on Wednesday, January 23.
