Whether it is his mother, his wife, his daughter or even his colleague or his friend, every man has an extraordinary woman in his life. Those special women are why men throughout Omaha are joining with the American Heart Association to fight heart disease, the No. 1 killer of women.
Now in its first year, Omaha’s Men Go Red for Women group unites men throughout the metro who not only have the passion, but also the influence and resources to significantly impact the community by providing a personal gift to help find a cure for heart disease. Heart disease is more deadly than all forms of cancer combined.
“Each of us have women in our lives who we care about,” said Men Go Red for Women Founding Chair Derek Leathers, president and chief operating officer of Werner Enterprises. “We should not wait until we have lost someone we love to take action.”
Approximately 90-percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease but many are unaware. Risk factors include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, physical inactivity, obesity and tobacco use.
Two membership levels are available:
• Young Professionals Men Go Red Membership, a $500 level of giving for individuals 35 years of age or younger.
• Standard Men Go Red Membership, a $1,000 level of giving.
