The Jennie Edmundson Foundation (jehfoundation.org)has launched its annual year-end campaign in support of Caring for Our Communities (CFOC), a collaborative initiative that helps patients and neighbors overcome barriers to health and stability.
Through Caring for Our Communities, more than 35 community organizations and philanthropic partners work together to ensure individuals in need have access to essential supports such as transportation, food, housing, medication assistance and home modifications.
In 2024 alone, the program has served more than 3,600 individuals, providing compassionate, practical help when it’s needed most. One recent example is Jon and Wanda, longtime Council Bluffs residents who faced overwhelming challenges after Jon’s diagnosis with a progressive muscular disease. Through CFOC, they received coordinated support, including home modifications and a wheelchair ramp, allowing Jon to safely remain in his home with his wife and caregiver, Wanda. “All gifts to Caring for Our Communities stay local,” said Tara Slevin, president of the Jennie Edmundson Foundation. “Every dollar helps remove a barrier for someone right here in our community, whether that is a ride to treatment, a warm meal or a safe way home.”
