This May, Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) Nebraska (JAGNebraska.org), a program of United Way of the Midlands (UWM)(unitedwaymidlands.org), celebrated a notable milestone as more than 650 students graduated as part of the class of 2026. Representing 58 schools, the achievement reflects the impact of the program as it continues to help young people build strong futures through education, career readiness and personal support.
“JAG’s mission is to empower students with the skills and support to succeed in education, employment and life,” said Matt Wallen, COO, United Way of the Midlands. “This record-setting class reflects the determination of students and the role schools, employers and community partners play in helping young people discover meaningful pathways forward.”
Research shows that graduating from high school creates greater long-term opportunities — including higher earning potential, a stronger workforce and increased economic stability.
With JAG Nebraska, the connection continues after graduation as JAG Specialists help students navigate college or trade school, connect with potential employers and gain exposure to professional opportunities in their communities. Employer partnerships are a vital part of that success. Through job shadows, workplace tours, apprenticeships, mentorship opportunities and job placements, local businesses help students gain exposure to career fields, build connections and understand the opportunities available to them close to home.
Founded in January 2019 as part of a national network, JAG Nebraska now serves more than 5,000 students as a for-credit elective within 60 school districts.
