Hy-Vee Extends Arbor Day Foundation Partnership with $100K Donation
The Arbor Day Foundation (arborday.org) announced on October 25 that it has extended its partnership with Hy-Vee, Inc., a supermarket chain in the Midwest. For the third year in a row, Hy-Vee presented a $100,000 donation to support tree plantings and reforestation projects around the communities it serves. This announcement extends the existing partnership which was initially established in 2014. Since then, Hy-Vee has planted 318,070 trees within its eight-state region, including Loess Hills State Forest (Iowa), Nebraska National Forest (Nebraska), Chippewa National Forest (Minnesota), Douglas and Bayfield County Forests (Wisconsin) and Good Earth (South Dakota).
The environmental impact of the Arbor Day Foundation’s partnership with Hy-Vee is vast. The trees planted with Hy-Vee’s support have reduced erosion from years of farming and helped stall the spread of competing invasive species in national forests. For example, Hy-Vee helped repopulate the Nebraska National Forest ponderosa pine forest and seed source following multiple fires that put the forest in jeopardy. Hy-Vee has also planted trees to help maintain habitats for animals like the American bald eagle in Chippewa National Forest, as well as ruffed grouse, turkeys, deer, black-billed cuckoos, blue-winged warblers and brown thrashers in the Bayfield and Douglas State Forests.
Founded in 1972, the Arbor Day Foundation (arborday.org) has grown to become the largest non-profit membership organization dedicated to planting trees, with more than one million members, supporters and valued partners. The Arbor Day Foundation educates and engages stakeholders and communities across the globe to involve themselves in its mission of planting, nurturing and celebrating trees.
