HETRA Announces Veteran and Military Experience Events
HETRA (Heartland Equine Therapeutic Riding Academy; www.HETRA.org) invites active duty or retired military personnel of any age, as well as their spouses and families, to take part in a specialized program where horses help ease the transition from military to civilian life through equine-assisted learning. Remaining dates for 2019 are October 18 and November 22 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the HETRA Barn, 10130 S. 222nd St. in Gretna.
Participants will experience the unique communication style and behavior patterns of horses through several activities designed to re-engage the senses on many levels. Establishing and building trust in themselves and relationships, re-engaging with a purpose, finding motivation and moving forward with perseverance, and developing a creative problem solving process are all beneficial outcomes of equine-assisted learning.
This program is led by the HETRA team, which is made up of experienced PATH Int’l certified therapeutic riding instructors, occupational therapists, mental health therapists, and trained veteran volunteers.
