Heartland Hope Mission Seeking Stuff a Truck Volunteers
Heartland Hope Mission is in need of volunteers for various shifts during their annual Stuff a Truck food drive. This year, the event will take place Thursday, August 16 through Sunday, August 19 at all Omaha area Hy-Vee stores. Stuff a Truck is a kid-friendly volunteer activity that’s open to church groups, Scouts, individuals, and corporations. Help to fight hunger in the community and sign up for a shift at HeartlandHopeMission.org.
At Heartland Hope Mission’s South Omaha and Millard food pantries, working poor families select a week’s supply of nutritious groceries including milk, frozen meat, and fresh produce to prepare well-balanced meals at home. However, Heartland Hope is more than a pantry. Clients receive clothing, hygiene items, diapers, and access to a Client Service Specialist who assists with SNAP (food stamp) applications and navigational services. Heartland Hope’s Jobs Paths Program provides access to current job postings and on-site interviews with employers. Clients can also participate in financial classes, nutrition education, and a community garden. The goal is to provide programming and wrap-around services to prevent families from becoming homeless and to help people achieve or rebuild self-sufficiency.
