Heartland Family Service Student League Class Kicks Off New Year
The Heartland Family Service (HFS; heartlandfamilyservice.org) Student League class kicked off their new year with an ice cream social on Sunday, September 9 at the Field Club of Omaha.
Student League, a program of the HFS Friends Guild, was created to honor families who have been active in helping the social service community and want to pass on that legacy to their children. Student League members are introduced to the social service community through the mission and programs of HFS. The students gain hands-on experience and develop a personal commitment to volunteering by participating in this educational volunteer experience. Each of this year’s 43 students will attend a variety of group events from September through April for a total of about 20 volunteer hours per student.
Since 1875, Heartland Family Service has responded to the needs of our area’s most vulnerable children and families. Each year, the agency’s 50 programs serve more than 52,000 individuals of all ages from more than 15 locations in east central Nebraska and southwest Iowa. We provide critical human services to the individuals and families who ultimately shape the future of our community.
Cheri Duryea McPherson is the 2018-19 Student League Chair. Other committee members are Melissa Steffes, Andrea Siegel, Jennifer Petersen, Nichol Rogers, Heather Siebken, and Lisa Gravelle.
