The Heartland Cancer Foundation’s first annual Vines & Steins event was held at Wilderness Ridge in Lincoln, NE on September 25.  The event will benefit cancer patients receiving treatment in Southeast Nebraska and Northeastern Kansas by assisting with costs associated with their cancer care.  This fun-filled evening featured a premier silent/online auction, live music by Brian Vranicar, signature hors d’oeuvres, and samplings from local wine vintners and breweries.  Local artists added to the night by sharing their art talents with the attending patrons.

Keynote speaker, Chris Harriman, Nebraska Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach, highlighted the evening by sharing a father’s story of his son, Avery, who is battling leukemia.  This year’s event sponsors included Baer Goff Financial, CHI Health-St Elizabeth, Dr. Matt Hrnicek-Gastroenterology Specialties, Miraca Life Sciences, Pride Homes, and Southeast Nebraska Cancer Center.

The Heartland Cancer Foundation, formerly Southeast Nebraska Cancer Foundation, was established in 2006 to assist eligible cancer patients of all ages with the expense of their gasoline while receiving cancer treatment.  In 2012, Bob Augustine recognized a need and established the Jean Augustine Endowment in honor of his late wife.  This addition to the foundation helps patients with the cost of the prescription cancer drugs and supportive medications.
