Grief’s Journey Presents “Characters Who Care” Family Movie Night

Grief’s Journey (www.griefsjourney.org) will host its second “Characters Who Care” event on Omaha Gives! day, Wednesday, May 23. The non-profit is hosting a movie screening at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema to give back to the Omaha community. The event is open to the public and free to attend. Pre-registration is required. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the film begins at 6:30 p.m.

The family film being viewed will have the death of a loved one and the associated grief as a central part of the storyline, which connects it directly with the mission of Grief’s Journey. Death and grief are prevalent in films and television shows and this event will give families the opportunity to have open dialogue with each other about these topics.

Characters Who Care: Family Movie Night is offered in conjunction with Omaha Gives!, the one-day online fundraising event organized by the Omaha Community Foundation to raise support for non-profits in Douglas, Sarpy and Pottawattamie Counties. It is a community-wide event to show off the area’s spirit of giving, raise awareness about local nonprofits and celebrate the collective effort it takes to make this city great. Although the movie screening is entirely free to attend, freewill donations to Grief’s Journey at the event can be processed through Omaha Gives!

Since 2001, Grief’s Journey has been a welcoming, safe place where grieving children, teens and adults find hope. As the region’s cornerstone for grief support, Grief’s Journey provides free peer support programs as well as training, education and consultation throughout Nebraska and Iowa. Grief’s Journey relies on charitable contributions, special event income and volunteerism to support its free programs. For more information, visit www.griefsjourney.org.
