Goodwill Teams with Max I. Walker to Donate 60+ Sleepers for Infants in NICU

Goodwill Industries, Inc. of Omaha teamed with Max I. Walker Dry Cleaning & Laundry, a five-generation t-owned business, in early August to donate more than 60 sleepers for infants in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Methodist Women’s Hospital. The collection and donation was the result of Nursing Assistant Sarah Jane Geilenkirchen, who posted to a Facebook mom’s group that the NICU was “running out of sleepers for these littles.” When Max I. Walker employees saw the note, they immediately thought of Goodwill Omaha—their recent collaborator on a similar effort in April to donate scrubs to the Creighton medical-scrub drive, and the drive was on!

The two teamed up and managed the sleepers-donation project in the same way they had for Creighton: Goodwill’s retail-operations team gathered all the sleepers in preemie and newborn sizes from its stores, and Max I. Walker laundered and bundled them for members of the two organizations to deliver to Methodist Women’s Hospital on August 7. Geilenkirchen said the sleepers will certainly keep the babies in the NICU comfortable, but they’ll also bring comfort to the families, who typically spend as much time as they can at the hospital with their babies.

Many people recognize Goodwill Industries, Inc. as a place to donate used clothing and household items or find great bargains, but the mission is to provide job training and placement services to people with disabilities and other disadvantages.
