Educare of Omaha, Inc. (educareomaha.org) is excited to celebrate National Reading Month this March with a variety of activities designed to inspire a love for reading in young children.
“The building blocks for reading proficiency are grounded in language developed in the first three years of life,” Executive Director Rafel O. Hart said. “Research shows that reading to children is a wonderful way to increase vocabulary and literacy skills.”
Educare of Omaha, Inc. schools will celebrate National Reading Month in several ways. Guest readers from the community, including local leaders, educators and volunteers, will visit classrooms to share their favorite stories and encourage literacy engagement. Additionally, Educare of Omaha, Inc.’s Read and Play program will provide each child with a free bilingual and developmentally appropriate book, and parents will receive strategies on how to read the book to their child and engage in activities related to the book theme.
To add to the excitement, students and staff will participate in themed spirit weeks inspired by Dr. Seuss, featuring dress-up days, book-themed activities and creative classroom experiences that bring stories to life.
“At Educare of Omaha, Inc., we know that early exposure to books and language is critical for a child’s development,” Hart said. “National Reading Month is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate literacy and instill a lifelong love for reading in our students.”
