Community members gathered on October 2 for the Project Game ON Beam Signing to celebrate a historic milestone in the future of the Butler-Gast YMCA (metroymca.org) and Gene R. Haynes Stadium in North Omaha.
YMCA members, North High students and alumni, project partners, donors, investors, YMCA of Greater Omaha and Omaha Public School staff, community leaders, volunteers and neighbors came together to sign the construction beams, leaving their mark on a project that will help shape the future of the community.
The event brought together generations of North Omaha residents to share stories, memories and pride in the rich histories of North High and the Butler-Gast YMCA, while looking ahead to the opportunities these new facilities will create.
“It’s going to be a community hub. People can come together of all ages to find wellness, find recreation, find community and find a place to belong,” said Rebecca Deterding, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Omaha, describing her vision for the new YMCA.
Project Game ON represents a significant investment in North Omaha, bringing together community partners around a shared vision for youth development, recreation, wellness and connection. The future facilities will provide opportunities for students, families and neighbors to gather, build relationships and strengthen community ties for generations to come.
The beam signing marked more than a construction milestone. It offered a meaningful opportunity for the people who have shaped North Omaha’s history to help write the next chapter.
