The Southwest Iowa Mental Health and Substance Use Fund, an initiative of the Community Foundation for Western Iowa (givewesterniowa.org), awarded the following nonprofit organizations a $2,000 grant during its latest funding cycle: Heartland Family Service; Southwest Iowa Families, Inc.; The Kim Foundation; and Visiting Nurse Association of Pottawattamie County.
The purpose of the Southwest Iowa Mental Health and Substance Use Fund is to provide much-needed funding to nonprofit service providers for professional development of their mental health professionals, and to enhance and increase overall community awareness of the issues and solutions associated with mental health and wellbeing.
Grant funding to The Kim Foundation will help students from southwest Iowa attend and participate in the EmPOWER Youth Summit, a one-day youth mental health and suicide prevention event. The 2027 EmPOWER Youth Summit will reach approximately 800 youth in the metro area, including students in Iowa for the first time. Student attendees will connect with peers, explore mental health topics, discover resources, and leave feeling empowered to make a difference.
