Bank teller. Diesel mechanic. Teacher’s aide. Those are just a few of the internships that Avenue Scholars (avescholars.org) facilitated for nearly 30 high schoolers over the summer.

Through one-on-one coaching, internship fairs and interview prep, Avenue Scholars prepared these students to take on what is — for many — their first job. Throughout the summer, Avenue Scholars staff checked in with interns and their supervisors for constructive feedback, ensuring a great experience for Scholars and business partners.

Over the summer, Atem M., currently a senior at Ralston High School, interned as a diesel mechanic at Truck Center Companies. There, he learned common diesel repairs from experienced professionals.

“Technicians around here are good people,” he said. “Very good to talk to.”

Avenue Scholars partners with area schools, colleges and businesses to help young people discover career pathways that lead to stable, self-sustaining employment. For more information, visit avescholars.org.
