Autism Action Partnership (AAP) (autismaction.org) is proud to partner with Clarkson College to offer “Understanding Autism: A Training Series for Healthcare.” This three-part educational series is designed to provide students, faculty and staff with critical insights into Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and best practices for supporting autistic individuals in healthcare settings.

The series will be led by Michaela Ahrens, Vice President of Operations, and Kelly Nielsen, Education & Outreach Manager at AAP. Together, they will share their expertise in autism education and outreach, offering healthcare professionals valuable tools for interacting with neurodivergent patients, students, and colleagues.

The event series will take place at Clarkson College on the following dates:

  • October 24, 12-1 p.m. – Introduction to Autism: Learn about Autism Spectrum Disorder, common characteristics, and how autism presents across different individuals.
  • March 20, 12-1 p.m. – Supporting Neurodiverse Students & Employees: Explore how to create an inclusive environment for neurodivergent individuals in academic and workplace settings.
  • May 22, 12-1 p.m. – Caring for Patients with Autism: Gain practical strategies for providing compassionate and effective care for patients with autism in healthcare environments.

Additionally, students who attend all three presentations will have the opportunity to participate in an Interprofessional Education (IPE) simulation experience in June, where they can apply their knowledge in a real-world clinical setting.

This training series is open to all students, faculty and staff at Clarkson College who are interested in enhancing their understanding of autism and building a more inclusive and empathetic healthcare environment.
