AmeriCorps Awards FAMILY, Inc. Three-Year Grant for Three VISTAs

FAMILY, Inc. (www.familyia.org) was awarded a three-year grant from AmeriCorps for three VISTAs (Volunteers In Service To America). VISTAs are volunteers who commit to a 12-month full-time role to work with local organizations to strengthen a community and help people escape poverty. The local VISTA projects aim to enhance the organization’s fundraising, marketing, and grant acquisition efforts. Improvement in these areas will increase FAMILY’s ability to engage and educate the Pottawattamie, Mills, and surrounding counties. Since 1965, over 220,000 AmeriCorps members in the VISTA program have joined the fight against poverty by helping local organizations expand their capacity to make change. The VISTA program serves in each of the 50 U.S. states and in all U.S. territories. Through capacity building activities such as fundraising, grant writing, research, and volunteer recruitment, AmeriCorps members in the VISTA program serve in an office setting and gain experience and leadership skills.

FAMILY, Inc. is an early childhood and public health organization that provides public health education, support, and connection to resources for women, children, and families in Pottawattamie and Mills counties. When parents are empowered and children have the nurturing and support they need, their chances of positively contributing to society as an adult increase.
