23rd Annual Heartland Family Service Safe Haven Golf Tournament a Success

Eighty-eight area golfers helped putt an end to domestic violence and sexual assault by raising $16,805 at the 23rd annual Heartland Family Service (heartlandfamilyservice.org) Safe Haven Golf Tournament on Friday, Sept. 16 at Tara Hills Golf Course in Papillion. Omaha Storm Chasers President and General Manager Martie Cordaro and his wife Sara served as honorary chairs.

In addition to receiving a SWAG bag, boxed lunch and dinner, golfers also were able to participate in several games throughout the course. Participants had the choice to tee off while wearing the Storm Chasers mascot head or pay $10 on the ninth hole as part of the “Mascot or Masc-not” Challenge. On the 12th hole, golfers had to tee off in high heels or pay $20 for the “Putt Yourself in Her Shoes” Challenge.

The Arby’s PANDA, Inc. team of Andy and Pat D’Agosto, Jason Mateljan and John Caniglia took first place. Steve Ritzman, Collettee Lozier, Brian Andersen and Megan Holtorf of American National Bank finished second.

Nine-hole participants also had the opportunity to attend the first annual Spa Vendor Expo in the clubhouse, along with Expo-only entrants. The Expo featured eight vendors, including Interiors Joan and Associates and Kung Fu Damsels.

All funds raised will go to support the Heartland Family Service Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Services program, including the Safe Haven concealed shelter for women and their children who are trying to escape from harmful environments and heal from the lasting effects of their trauma.
