134 Women Entrepreneurs Graduate from MLCDC’s Mujeres Emprendedoras Program
On October 23, 134 Latino women graduated from the Midlands Latino Community Development Corporation (MLCDC, www.midlandslatinocdc.org) Mujeres Emprendedoras (Women Entrepreneurs) program. The event, sponsored by U.S. Bank, was held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at The Salvation Army Omaha Kroc Center. The event gathered more than 100 attendees, participants, and their families who joined to see their loved ones receive their certificates.
The women earning a certificate completed MLCDC’s virtual financial education, business plan, childcare, and construction trainings. The trainings offered to program participants will help them to budget their finances, create a savings, find affordable housing, initiate a small business, and more. Some of the program participants have a small business and the trainings will help them continue to run and expand their operations, growing local economies.
Since May 2020, when the Women Entrepreneurs program started, more than 400 women have applied to receive training, classes, workshops, and technical assistance for their personal finances and entrepreneurship goals. Training is provided in Spanish to reduce one of the main barriers for Latino communities to enter the entrepreneurship arena.
The Midlands Latino Community Development Corporation is known as a place where individuals receive training to open childcares, but the mission at the heart of the organization is to provide training opportunities to low- and moderate-income individuals to achieve financial stability and economic growth through entrepreneurship.
