The 12th annual LOVAM Jazz Festival will be at Turner Park in Midtown Crossing on August 31 from 4 to 10 p.m. The festival will feature jazz musicians from across the world, with an emphasis on women and minority-owned artists, vendors and craftsmen from North Omaha. Attendance to LOVAM is free–with an expected attendance rate of 10,000 people!
The mission of HALLINS (HALLINSCorp.com) is to stimulate constructive change in underserved communities through art, music and culture. The corporation provides events in different disciplines of art that enhance the economic viability of disadvantaged neighborhoods. Events include artistic programs, music festivals, student courses, fundraisers and organized community drives.
Performers for the LOVAM Jazz Festival include:
- Rick Braun: Trumpeter Rick Braun is instantly recognizable for his rounded tone and intimate, lyrical phrasing. A chart-topping instrumentalist, Braun emerged in the ’90s, drawing upon the work of players like Chet Baker and Gil Evans-era Miles Davis, adding his own contemporary jazz style. In addition to more than 20 smooth jazz number one hits, he has collaborated with a bevy of jazz and pop greats, including Kirk Whalum, Norman Brown, Dave Koz, Rod Stewart, Natalie Cole and Sade. He has over five Top 200 albums, as well as five jazz number ones.
- Adam Hawley: Guitarist and Producer Adam Hawley burst onto the scene as a celebrated and innovative artist, composer and band leader. Handpicked by Maurice White, he first debuted on the label Kalimba Music. In all, Adam’s four albums and work as a producer has spawned an incredible 16 Billboard #1 Hits.
