Each year, the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC, www.nawicomaha.org) helps promote post-secondary construction industry training through several scholarship programs. Nationally, the NAWIC Founders Scholarship Foundation (NFSF) awards over $100,000 to applicants pursuing construction-related programs. The NFSF scholarships range from $500-$2,500.
Locally, the Greater Omaha chapter has set up a scholarship fund through Metro Community College and the University of Nebraska. NAWIC is expanding their efforts and are on track to begin awarding additional scholarships through Wayne State College and SCC within the next five years. If you know of a 2024 senior planning to pursue a construction-related career, encourage them to apply! Go to the scholarship tab on nawicomaha.org for more information. Most of the funds to support these scholarships are raised during the annual NAWIC golf tournament. This year’s tournament will be held on August 22. More information about this tournament will be available in the coming weeks!
NAWIC Chapter 116 is based in Omaha and encompasses Lincoln, Council Bluffs and the surrounding areas. Meetings for the chapter are on the second Thursday of each month and are open to the public.
