Bring the family down to Miller’s Landing (151 Freedom Park Road) on May 9 as the American Heart Association joins with Physicians Mutual Insurance Group and media sponsors KMTV and Star 104.5 for the Omaha Heart Walk. The children’s walk starts at 8 a.m. with the Heart Walk Opening Ceremony at 9 a.m., followed by the Heart Walk. At the event, cardiovascular disease survivors from across the state will also be honored.

The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association’s mission – building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke – in action. Held annually, the walk celebrates those who have made lifestyle changes in an effort to improve their heart-health, and encourages others to take the pledge to live healthier lifestyles, while raising the funding needed for life-saving research and education.

Local companies and individuals can form Heart Walk Teams now at www.heart.org/Omaha/. Donations can also be made through the website.

The American Heart Association has a goal of raising $660,000 through the 2015 Omaha Heart Walk. In 2014, the American Heart Association funded $2.68 million for 15 new and continuing cardiovascular studies in Nebraska. Throughout the country, the American Heart Association funds research that helps children and adults everywhere.
