The Academy of General Dentistry held its annual convocation at the new City Music Center in Nashville, Tennessee on June 29th.  Omaha dentist, Dr. William Kathrein was a recipient of the Academy’s highest honor, the Lifelong Service Recognition Award.  Only two in Nebraska and 200 nationally have received this honor in the Academy’s 63 years. Those awarded are recognized for their continued commitment and contribution to organized dentistry, their volunteerism, and their service in the local community. The prestigious award symbolizes the recipient’s dedication to his profession and to his community.
Over the years, Dr. Kathrein has provided free dental services to Omaha’s homeless shelter residents, to the Niobrara Indian community, and internationally to numerous hospitals and underserved villages in Central America.  Dr. Kathrein received his BA in economics from the University of Nebraska in 1970 and his DDS in 1974 from the University of Nebraska Dental College.  Dr. Kathrein has also served on the Academy’s State Board of Directors for over 25 years and several other professional and community boards.  He and his wife, Dr. JoAnn Kathrein, practice dentistry together at 90th and Dodge Family Dentistry and recently celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary.
