On December 18, 2014, Heartland Equine Therapeutic Riding Academy (HETRA) received a grant for Equine Services for Heroes, HETRA’s Veteran’s program. The grant was issued by the United States Department of Veteran’s Affairs through the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl) to support disabled veterans in adaptive sports. HETRA is excited to be one of only 13 PATH Intl programs across the United States selected for this funding. The grant will apply to sessions running January 1 – July 31, 2015.

Veterans of any age and type of disability are encouraged to explore participation in the HETRA’s Equine Services for Heroes program. The program is designed to evaluate and provide opportunities for improvement physically, mentally and socially in a barn environment.  Each 45 minute therapeutic session is conducted by the HETRA team, consisting of Veteran Volunteers (horse leaders and sidewalkers to assist the participant), PATH Intl Certified Instructors, Occupational Therapists, and a Mental Health Therapist.

Copies of video and radio interviews with HETRA students, therapists, and staff are available at www.HETRA.org / Services offered.   2015 registration is open and times are still available for veterans to participate.
