Westside Community Schools Creates Family Resource Center Stocked with Clothing, Food
Funded by donors whose three children attend school there, Westside Community Schools (www.westside66.org) has created and stocked a Family Resource Center Food Pantry and Clothing Closet to help families of students navigate the mental, physical, and financial struggles that 2020 delivered and continue into 2021. Any family with a student attending a Westside school can receive items from the center, as needed and at no cost. You’ll find everything from toiletries like soap and toothpaste to stack after stack of canned fruits and vegetables in the Food Pantry. Move along to the Clothing Closet, and you’ll find a tremendous collection of clothes, shoes, and winter wear, all sorted by size and gender.
The Family Resource Center is located in a space attached to Westgate Elementary School that Westside Community School donors and staff renovated and turned into the thrift store and food pantry. Westside Community Schools also has a team of school social workers that function as a link between the home, school, and community. They can connect families with community resources for financial hardships, mental-health support, or any other barriers that might affect student success.
