Westroads Mall and Omaha’s Habitat ReStore teamed up to create the ultimate designer challenger. Five of Omaha’s most creative designers were tasked with creating a room using only materials donated to Omaha’s Habitat ReStore.
All of the unique designs were on display at the mall, and the public was invited to vote for their favorite display via text message. The first-place winner was D3 Interiors with their dining room display. Westroads Mall also presented Habitat with a check for $1,000 from funds raised during the competition.
The Habitat ReStore is a discount home improvement outlet that is open to the public. The ReStore accepts donations of new, used and surplus materials from businesses and the general public. With prices well below retail, the ReStore sells these items to the general public with the proceeds benefitting the construction of new and rehab houses in the metro area. In 2011, the ReStore generated enough income to fund the building of 3.5 Habitat homes. A second Habitat ReStore is scheduled to open in August 2012.
