U.S. Bank is offering consumers who are hoping to save more money in 2013 a little extra motivation to follow through with their New Year’s resolution this year.

Through the bank’s S.T.A.R.T. program, consumers can earn two $50 U.S. Bank Rewards Visa Cards simply by saving $1,000 and keeping that money in their account for a full year.

Since the program began in 2010, Omaha customers enrolled in S.T.A.R.T. have saved more than $39 million and earned nearly $400,000 in rewards.

S.T.A.R.T., which stands for Savings Today and Rewards Tomorrow, helps consumers start a savings plan and offers rewards for reaching key savings milestones. Consumers can choose how and how much they want to save. Once they save $1,000, consumers earn a $50. If they keep at least $1,000 in their account for a year, they earn another $50 Rewards Card.

With roots dating back to 1866, U.S. Bank operates 35 branches and employs more than 350 people in Omaha.

U.S. Bancorp (NYSE: USB), with $354 billion in assets as of December 31, 2012, is the parent company of U.S. Bank National Association, the 5th largest commercial bank in the United States.
