South Omaha Trail Ribbon Cutting Marks Completion of Phase Two

The City of Omaha Parks, Recreation and Public Property Department hosted a ribbon cutting for completing Phase Two of the 1.6 mile long South Omaha Trail extension on Nov. 10th. With completion of the second phase, the South Omaha Trail opens up a major east/west trail corridor allowing trail users to pass safely under or over major streets, a railroad and an interstate.

This 3.7 mile, 10 foot wide, concrete, multi-use, recreational trail is built on a former CN&W and Union Pacific rail line and connects the Keystone Trail at Karen Park on the west side of the city to the Field Club Trail at S. 35th and Vinton Streets on the east side of the city.

The ribbon cutting took place at the new trail head located at S. 42nd and “D” Streets (across the street from McDonalds).

Funding for Phase Two was made possible by the Papio Missouri River Natural Resources District.
