Outlook Enrichment Extends Reach to People with Vision Loss Through Pandemic Funding
Outlook Enrichment (outlooken.org/donate), a nonprofit providing resources and support to help those with vision loss remain independent, provided services to more people than ever in 2020, which marked a year of resiliency among the individuals it serves and the programs it offers. While some agencies closed their doors or suspended or limited services, Outlook Enrichment maintained is staff and provided access to resources for people with vision loss through support from the Community CARES COVID-19 Response and Recovery Grant, Payroll Protection Program, and Stabilization Grant for charitable organizations.
Funding in 2020 supported Outlook Enrichment’s shift to a casemanagement model by providing its adaptive-technology training program, support groups, and educational seminars to people with vision loss via virtual formats. That allowed the nonprofit to extend its services to people outside of its Omaha headquarters into rural parts of Nebraska, throughout Iowa, and beyond the Midwest. In some cases, Outlook Enrichment even loaned out equipment needed for clients to continue training, and also provided emotional and transition support, in addition to financial assistance to individuals and families in need.
In Nebraska, more than 38,000 individuals faced the pandemic with limited vision, with nearly one third of them living in poverty. Outlook Enrichment needs your help to continue assisting neighbors living with vision loss through their adaptive-technology training, culture, recreation, and peer-support programs.
