Three Nebraska restaurants have been selected as state winners of the 2012 Restaurant Neighbor Award and are now in the running for the national award that rewards community service.  The Restaurant Neighbor Award was created by the National Restaurant Association to recognize restaurants that exemplify the industry’s philanthropic spirit. The winners are: Grandmother’s, Concord Hospitality, Inc., and Shuck’s Fish House.

Grandmother’s Inc. was instrumental in the initial funding of the Project Harmony Golf Tournament which began in 1995 by Dean Rasmussen and several local volunteers.  Project Harmony is a nonprofit agency whose mission is to respond to the abuse of children one child at a time.  Their collaborative, child-focused approach ensures that children are not further victimized by the systems intended to protect them.  Over $2,000,000 has been raised for Project Harmony since its inception in 1995.

Concord Hospitality, Inc. (d.b.a. Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar, Famous Dave’s BBQ, Village Inn, and Holiday Inn Hotel) has worked with the local chapters of Make-A-Wish for more than 3 years coordinating fundraising efforts of employees and their valued guests.

Shuck’s Fish House and owner, Greg Lindberg, donate 10% of their food and beverage sales on the first Tuesday of every month to various charities centered around hungry children in the community.
