Highlander Neighborhood Welcomes Three New Restaurants at Highlander Accelerator

The Highlander neighborhood is gearing up for the opening of a new bar and grill and a new Mexican restaurant in addition to the newly-opened location of Big Mama’s Kitchen and Catering, a north Omaha favorite. The three restaurants will share dining space in the new Highlander Accelerator Dining Room (highlanderomaha.com/dining-room) located at 2112 N 30th St.

Pico, which will serve Mexican street food including street tacos, East Coast al pastor, and homemade salsa; and the Highland Bar and Grill, which will offer standard American fare such as burgers, wings, chicken fingers, and pizzas, are owned and operated by husband and wife Natalie and Lance Wang. The Wangs are finally ready to share their tasty creations with the public after two years of planning and hard work.

Big Mama’s Kitchen and Catering is owned and operated by Gladys Harrison, whose mother Patricia Barron originally opened the beloved soul food kitchen. Among their classic dishes are oven-fried chicken, skillet cornbread, and their famous sweet potato pie and sweet potato ice cream—some dishes prepared from family recipes over 100 years old. The new location of Big Mama’s opened at the beginning of January and is already enjoying great success.
