HETRA Celebrates 30 Years, Makes Final Payment on Property

This year, HETRA (Heartland Equine Therapeutic Riding Academy) is celebrating 30 years of serving the Omaha community. The group credits their success to the support from the community over the last few decades.

In June of 2014, HETRA merged its two locations into one by taking possession of a 25-acre property in Gretna, NE. This was one of the biggest transitions in the history of HETRA. December 13, 2018 was equally rewarding, as the group made the final payment on the property. This was an incredible milestone for HETRA, laying down the foundation for future growth. Now, in its 30th year of service, HETRA has never been better positioned to expand even further.

With expanding programs and a growing staff, HETRA continues on a sharp and swift upward trajectory. In 2018, they added a year-round Life Skills program, an Equine Assisted Learning program for at-risk youth, and hosted several pilot programs, which are coming to fruition in 2019. One of those programs is their Respite Caregivers Retreat. It’s designed to introduce Equine Assisted Learning to parents, caregivers, and families who spend their lives providing care and well-being for individuals who face numerous challenges.

HETRA’s mission is to improve the quality of life both physically and emotionally of adults and children of all ability levels through equine-assisted activities. Visit www.HETRA.org to learn more about HETRA.
