Whisky authority Monique Huston, a consultant for Grane, Midtown Crossing’s unprecedented whisky-centric concept, has been inducted into the ultra-exclusive Keepers of the Quaich (pronounced “quake”), an international and invitation-only “community of members recognized for their outstanding commitment to Scotch whisky.”

Established in 1988 by the industry’s biggest companies, the Keepers of the Quaich are dedicated to promoting “the values and image of Scotch whisky as the world’s finest and most prestigious distilled spirit.” Induction ceremonies are held twice annually at Blair Castle in Scotland. Huston was among 47 new Keepers being inducted in the November 2014 ceremony: 44 men and 3 women.

Inductees must be nominated by a Master of the Quaich and have a minimum of five years of industry experience. Huston has 15 years’ experience – and was nominated by Andrew Symington, a Master of the Quaich and owner of Scotland’s Edradour Distillery and Signatory Vintage Co.

Though based in Chicago, the Nebraska native works closely with the Grane team as their personal “whisky sommelier,” an educational role that includes “thorough, intense training across whisky brands, going through production and regions, and teaching people how to use their palates.” For more information about Grane or Brix, please contact Dan Matuszek at (402) 880-8857 or Dan.Matuszek@brixomaha.com.
