Empowerment Network Presents Step-Up Omaha!, Application Deadline March 10
The Empowerment Network (empoweromaha.com) and the City of Omaha, in collaboration with community partners, are excited to present their annual Step-Up Omaha! program, which was created in order to provide opportunities for youth and young adults with valuable job training and work experience during the summer. The nine-week program, June 3–August 2, will incorporate career exploration, life skills training, hands-on learning opportunities and community service. Participants could earn up to $2,000 this summer through Step-Up Omaha!
In 2019, the Empowerment Network would like to build on the program’s successes and connect 900 youth and young adults, ages 14–21, with a career this summer and beyond. During the program, the 14 and 15-year-olds will participate in career exploration and professional development opportunities. Individuals ages 16–21 will be assigned to a worksite after completing a two-week orientation. Participating employers over the past 11 years have included non-profits, educational institutions, governmental agencies, and for-profit businesses. Due to the demand for summer employment, placement in the program cannot be guaranteed.
There are multiple ways the business community in Omaha can invest in this enriching program. Employers can hire participants and provide a high-quality work experience. The work can be subsidized or partially subsidized. Otherwise, anyone is welcome to sponsor participants financially while they work on a separate site. Any financial contribution made to support the initiative is greatly appreciated.
Employers interested in worksite opportunities should contact Moniki Cannon at (402) 502-5153. Anyone needing assistance completing the application should call (402) 502-3763. Summer applications close at midnight on March 10. Visit www.stepupomaha.com to apply!
