Centris Federal Credit Union Sponsors Cruisin’ For The Cure Car Show
Centris Federal Credit Union (www.centrisfcu.org) sponsored the 8th Annual Cruisin’ For The Cure Car Show on September 9 in conjunction with Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
During the day, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., eligible men received a free PSA (prostate specific antigen) blood test to determine if they have prostate cancer. Methodist Hospital provided medical personnel on site to perform the tests. According to Dawn Gonzales, vice president of community involvement at Centris Federal Credit Union, at least five men have let event organizers know that the test performed at the show saved their lives. The show annually does an average of 120 free PSA tests, with seven to 10 men being identified with elevated PSA scores.
There was no entry fee, however a donation to help raise awareness of prostate cancer was encouraged. All proceeds from the show went towards benefitting Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center. Since becoming involved five years ago, Centris has donated $10,000 to pay for the PSA tests that are done during the car show.
Centris Federal Credit Union employee volunteers were on site throughout the day to assist with registration and traffic flow for the car show. Centris, one of Nebraska’s largest community chartered credit unions, was proud to support this meaningful event once again as one of the official sponsors.
